beet berry detox bowl
This might sound crazy but I really believe there’s no point to try to hold back this time of year. It’s all about eating well and eating a lot (of mostly the good stuff like healthy fats, protein + greens)! That being said, I still take time after Thanksgiving and New Years to reset and fully get back on track. I have a bunch of go-to recipes that make me feel instantly lighter and more energized. Like this beet berry detox bowl – when I’m eating it I can practically feel the beets wringing out my liver and the protein boosting my energy, soothing my digestive system, and revving my metabolism.
The protein powder I use is from Parsley Health – the functional medicine practice I work for – and it’s highly anti-inflammatory and full of phytonutrients, fatty acids, vitamins, and minerals, including activated methyl-B12 and methyl-folate. All those fancy words means it’s a great way to support your digestive system and balanced detoxification. I start nearly every morning with this in my smoothie, and it also serves as the anchor for the Parsley 7-day cleanse, which I do a few times a year go get back on track (esp before the rest of the holiday season)!
This detox bowl is best made with a hi-speed blender but if you don’t have one simply grate the beet before adding it. Then go about your day feeling energized and reset from the night before!
Ingredients
Serves 1
- ½ – ¾ cup plant based milk (almond or coconut)
- ½ frozen banana
- ½ cup frozen cherries
- ½ cup frozen raspberries
- ½ raw beet (washed + peeled)
- 1 scoop vanilla Parsley protein powder (optional)
- 1 tablespoon coconut butter
Toppings: pomegranate seeds, raspberries, coconut flakes + bee pollen
Method
Place all ingredients in blender, starting with ½ cup milk and blend until smooth. If you are not using a high speed blender use more milk and grate the beet prior to adding. Enjoy!

I like the beet idea. I've had it in juice but never in a smoothie bowl! http://whenhealthymettasty.com

This was really good! Our whole family (including our 5 boys, ages 14, 12, 9, 6, and 2!) are doing our first whole30 right now and not all of them love eggs, so finding breakfasts that make everyone happy is tough. But they all liked this! I had to do it in 2 batches in my vitamix, multiplied the recipe x8 to make enough to fill everyone up, ha! I didn't have the protein powder, so I added a couple eggs for protein and a little vanilla. Thanks for the recipe!
