morning warrior smoothie bowl
The recent launch of Under Armour’s #IWILLWHATIWANT campaign led me to reflect on what I do in my personal life to make myself a woman of will. I realized that we don’t always have to be jumping through huge hurdles to make us women of will. It’s about the small steps that amount to a larger end goal, and maintaining an unwavering WILL that pushes us toward these goals. For me, this means fueling & energizing myself right when I wake up. I feel stronger, more determined, and ready to tackle the day when I begin with a balanced breakfast. True to its name, the morning warrior smoothie bowl motivates & invigorates me through a simple combination of my daily staples and with an extra punch of protein. Hydrating and packed full of anti-inflammatory agents like ginger and turmeric, as well as full of fiber and protein, this smoothie is also a perfect go-to for resetting post-workout.
Ingredients
- ½ cup coconut water
- 1 frozen banana
- ½ cup frozen mango (optional)
- 2 handfuls of greens (combination of kale, spinach, romaine, etc)
- 2 tablespoons hemp protein
- 1 tablespoon soaked flax seeds
- Small piece of ginger (grated if not using a high speed blender)
- Juice of ½ lemon
- Dash turmeric
Optional toppings:
- Blueberries
- Kiwi
- Unsweetened coconut flakes
Method
Pour coconut water (starting with ¼ cup) and juice of lemon in blender.
Add flax seeds and hemp protein. Then add all other ingredients into high speed blender and blend until smooth. Note: if you aren’t using a high speed blender start with more coconut water and grate the ginger.
Pour into a bowl and top with any fresh fruit or superfoods that you have on hand. (Blueberries, kiwi, unsweetened coconut flakes are pictured).
Enjoy!

Hi there, Is there anything I can use instead of hemp protein? And how to soak the flax seeds, for how long? Love your website and the recipes - so simple and healthy! Olga

Thanks, Olga! Yes, you can sub with any protein that you wish. I find that hemp protein works great for me and doesn't create any chalky texture. You can also omit it completely as well. Soaking the flax seeds in water overnight (just enough to cover) will make them easier to digest. If you don't have the time, you can do it for less time, use ground flax, or omit! x
