good clean home: nontoxic cleaning supplies
The past few months have had me spending way more time in my apartment, and way more time cleaning. Admittedly, I’ve been a bit more lax about nontoxic cleaning supplies these past few months (bring on the Clorox wipes!) but wanted to share my go-to nontoxic staples when it comes to cleaning. I like the think of this as my “Cleaning Kit”. Beyond decorating with sustainable and safe furniture, I always want to create a really clean, safe living space, which of course includes the cleaning supplies. My sister is great at this kind of stuff, so I asked her for her thoughts and a list of all her products. I found it super helpful so I thought I would share with you as well.
You can use this list if you are setting up your new apartment, or simply as items run out and you want to replace them with something more green.
My Favorite Cleaning Tools
This chic dustpan.
This apartment friendly mop.
Microfiber cloths that are way more durable (and eco-friendly) than paper towels, AND a microfiber duster.
A hideaway toilet brush.
Scrubbing sponges and a tile brush.
Spray bottle for diy cleaning solutions.
Cleaning gloves to keep you hands protected!
My vacuum, which is reasonably priced and has held up well for a couple of years with regular cleaning 🙂
And of course, a portable cleaning caddy to get your from room to room and store your supplies!
My Favorite Nontoxic Cleaners
White vinegar! As nontoxic and cheap as it gets. You can dilute the vinegar and make a 50:50 solution with water. Add several drops of your favorite essential oil and use as an all-purpose cleaner.
Magic erasers for hard to remove stains (esp in the kitchen)!
Hand soap, dish soap, and dish detergent.
Toilet cleaner and shower spray. I keep both of these in the bathroom to keep grout in tip top shape (an issue that is currently plaguing me in a poorly ventilated bathroom).
Disinfecting wipes (if you can get your hands on any these days!) for toilets, door knobs, etc.
Bon Ami – my absolute favorite cleaner for sinks, showers, and tubs. You can also use this on kitchen messes – or plain baking soda too.
Hardwood floor cleaning spray – particularly good for apartment cleaning.
I hope this is helpful to set up a beautiful and safe clean living environment!
xo, Lily

Thank you for sharing this information about transit. It was useful and interesting. You indeed have written it in a layman way so that anyone can understand and work accordingly.
